Fort Lauderdale, Florida (July 15th, 2015) – Project Baseline and Brownie’s Global Logistics were proud to host National Geographic Explorers Dr. Sylvia Earle and Erika Bergman as they were featured in Camp Google’s interactive discussion for Ocean Week, “What’s Down There?” The Explorers were able to broadcast from a submersible on the research ship Baseline Explorer while watching a live feed from a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) provided by OpenROV, and piloted by Global Engineering & Exploration Counselors’ Samantha Wishnak, as the ROV explores a coral reef off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Children from all over the world can log on and watch as Sylvia and Erika answer questions ranging from “How deep can submarines dive?” to “What’s your favorite sea creature?”
Large scale film production and internet technical support crews transformed Baseline Explorer into a full media production studio in order to accommodate Camp Google’s high volume viewership. Using Ethernet Wi-Fi bridges, we were able to beam live video from the ROV support vessel, located several miles offshore, to Sylvia and Erika inside one of Project Baseline’s submersibles.
You can watch the video of these two knowledgeable and passionate scientists as they inspire the next generation of ocean explorers to ask questions and seek answers about the world around them while protecting the natural resources we depend on. See it here!
