Miami / Hollywood Sewage Outfall

A practice system from the 1970s still allows fast-growing coastal communities to flush treated wastewater offshore. Miami-Dade County dumps sewage about 3.6 miles offshore. The problem lies in the lawmakers who have long claimed this dump is far enough awat from the coast to dilute impact to beaches.

But awareness in the 1980s and 1990s clearly showed the environmental consequences on nearby reefs and marine life.
